Our Council
The role of the Council is to represent member districts within the MDIO, elect or appoint, and scrutinise the work of the Board of Directors. It acts as the governance body for the organisation.
Districts
Rotaract Great Britain and Ireland covers an area of 24 Rotary districts across Zones 19.
With thousands of clubs around the world, Rotary International groups clubs into 529 numbered districts and these districts into 34 zones to create areas with approximately the same number of Rotary members.
Each district is known by a number (from 1010 to 1285 across GBI). Our organisation covers the Isle of Man, Ireland, Northern Ireland, Scotland, Wales, England, the Channel Islands and Gibraltar.
The areas districts covered should only be seen as a geographical grouping based on Rotary membership data, and not of a political nature. We also don’t use the term “national” when talking about the area that the MDIO covers out of respect for the different identities across our geographic network.
The membership of Rotaract GBI is made up of Rotary districts. Member districts with Rotaract clubs are represented on our Council by their District Rotaract Representative.
A District Rotaract Representative (DRR) serves as an ambassador for Rotaract in their district. In Great Britain and Ireland, DRRs also join the Rotaract Multi-District Information Organisation Council as voting members, provided that the district has joined the Rotaract GBI, to represent clubs and Rotaractors within their district.
In collaboration with other district leaders, they support and implement leadership learning events, support Rotaract clubs in setting and achieving goals, resolving conflicts, stay up to date on Rotary initiatives, and meeting their district and Rotary International administrative requirements.
They also assist in establishing new Rotaract clubs and promote membership growth within the district, keep the District Governor informed of the progress and status of Rotaract clubs, and provide advice and support to Rotaract clubs in implementing their service activities.

The Board of Directors is the executive team responsible for the day-to-day operation and strategic coordination of the MDIO. Directors make decisions, take appropriate actions, and manage the affairs of Rotaract GBI. The work of the Board is scrutinised by the Council.
