First joining the Rotaract Tyneside in 2024, Chloe is also a member of Grantham Sunrise Rotary. We asked her some questions to shine a light on this person of action.

Chair-Elect of Rotaract GBI board 2025-2026

Chair of Rotaract GBI board 2026-2027 (upcoming)

As part of Rotaract, what projects have you been involved with? What did these project’s achieve, how was this made possible and why is this important to you?

Since joining Rotaract Tyneside in April 2024, I’ve had the opportunity to get involved in several meaningful projects that truly reflect the club’s values of connection, community, and dogoodery. One of the highlights has been supporting our partnership with the Purple Community Fund, selling Kan-made items at local Pride events. The funds raised help provide sustainable livelihoods for families in the Philippines while also raising awareness of the charity’s incredible work. Taking part in these one-off events throughout the year is a wonderful reminder that dogoodery, when done together and done consistently, can create a meaningful difference.

I have also been involved in other club level events from can-drives to stewarding at charity events, fundraising socials and quizzes. These projects create opportunities for us to come together as a club and deliver low cost projects in our community.

How have you been able to connect with others thanks to Rotaract?

Prior to joining Rotaract, I found the most fantastic mentor in Chris Wells, who was the President of Rotaract Tyneside at the time. He introduced me to the club, invited me to support the Conference, and guided me through the joining process. His mentorship and encouragement gave me the confidence to get involved and truly embrace what Rotaract has to offer.

Since joining, I’ve not only found the most amazing friends within my own club, but I’ve also had the chance to connect with Rotaractors from across Great Britain and Ireland. These connections have shown me just how powerful and welcoming the Rotaract community is. One of my favourite moments was unexpectedly bumping into another Rotaractor at the opposite end of the country. It was a powerful reminder to me of how small and connected the Rotaract world can be.

Through these friendships and networks, I’ve gained a deeper sense of belonging, inspiration, and purpose. Rotaract has expanded my network and empowered me to grow as a leader whilst making a positive impact in my community.

What opportunities has Rotaract given you to go beyond your local community?

Interestingly, my Rotaract club isn’t based in my local community. I joined Rotaract Tyneside, a hybrid club, so that I could stay involved with the friends I’d made when I first joined Rotaract. This has given me the unique opportunity to take part in projects that reach well beyond my local area in Lincolnshire, working alongside members from different regions and backgrounds.

I’ve also attended two Rotaract Great Britain and Ireland (GBI) conferences, which have been incredible opportunities to connect with Rotaractors and clubs, from across the country and beyond. Through these experiences, I’ve learned just how powerful our network can be when we share ideas, collaborate, and support each other.

How do you think you’ve grown as a person thanks to Rotaract? What opportunities have you had for your own personal development?

Rotaract has given me the opportunity to develop my leadership skills and take on a range of roles where I can drive positive change, including serving as President of my local club and as a member of the Rotaract GBI Board. Since stepping into these roles, I’ve gained a huge amount of confidence in inspiring others to create change and in working collaboratively with partners to make a real difference.

Rotaract has also allowed me to learn from an incredible network of people with diverse and fascinating skill sets. Over the last two years, I’ve had the privilege of working alongside individuals like Danny Brown, whose deep understanding of governance, by-laws, and organisational transformation has been both interesting and incredibly helpful. His guidance and mentorship has helped me appreciate how strong governance and structure are essential to achieving sustainable impact.

Overall, Rotaract has shaped me into a more confident, capable, and reflective leader.

Why should someone get involved with Rotaract and what advice would you give them?

What makes Rotaract special is the sense of community and belonging. For me, it’s more than being just a club; it’s about being part of a network who come together to make a difference, support one another and have fun along the way.

My advice to new members is to get involved with an open mind and say yes to new opportunities, even if they feel outside your comfort zone. I would also suggest finding a mentor who you can ask questions. The more you put into Rotaract, the more you’ll get out of it, personally, professionally, and socially.

What’s your proudest moment as a Rotaractor?

My proudest moment as a Rotaractor was being elected as Chair-Elect of the GBI Board. Whilst I had joined the board the previous year, I was still relatively new to Rotaract, so being trusted with such a significant role was incredibly humbling. It showed me that Rotaractors not only valued my ideas but also believed in my ability to lead and make a meaningful impact.

I am especially proud that, as a board member and Chair, I will have played a part in shaping  the direction of Rotaract in Great Britain and Ireland. I hope to offer more support to clubs, strengthen our network, and create opportunities for others to grow just as I have.

How does your Rotaract work reflect your passions or career goals?

As a Policy and External Affairs Officer for a national charity, I’ve always been driven by a belief in the power of people and partnerships to create change. My work in policy is all about influencing systems and shaping ideas that lead to better outcomes for communities.

Through Rotaract, I’ve had the opportunity to turn those values into action: working collaboratively with others, supporting events, and helping drive projects that make a tangible difference. Whether it’s a series of small, local initiatives or moments of wider significance, each experience has enabled me to work towards my goal of creating change.

Ultimately, I just hope that the work I do, both in my career and through Rotaract, contributes in some small way to lasting and positive change for others.

If you could describe Rotaract in three words, what would they be?
